アーティスト【YOICHIRO ANDO】のこれまでと今の思い、これからの思いをインタビューさせて頂きました。

株式会社LWArt（ロアート）では、社名の由来であるLife With Artをテーマに様々なアーティストにインタビュー協力をして頂き作品に対する思いや、制作中の拘りを語っていただき、よりアートを身近に感じてほしい、関心を持ってほしいという思いの元インタビュー企画が始動しました。

そのインタビュー第2弾アーティストを国内外でも注目を浴びている【YOICHIRO ANDO】さんにインタビューさせて頂きました。

🟢アーティストになったきっかけは？
🟢What brought you to become an artist?

元々は建設会社で働いていて、ずっと絵を描くのが好きなので仕事が終わってから絵を描いて、ちょっと描きすぎて夜中になってしまうみたいな生活を繰り返していました。

やはり仕事って一生なので、自分が絵描きになる方が頑張るかな、そんな感じからちゃんと絵をお仕事にしてみたいと思いだして。それがきっかけですね。

What brought you to become an artist?

I used to work for a construction company. Always loved drawing since then. I had always been drawing after I came home from work, spending too much time drawing that I didn’t even notice it’s way passed midnight.

You know, work is for life. I thought I might as well just start drawing professionally, so that I could focus more. This is how it started.

デジタルで完成したものをグッズ化して売ってるみたいなところからそのアーティストさんからの依頼でグッズを作ってという中で、作品としてキャンバスで残したいみたいな思いが強くなってきて2年前に活動は20年間していたんですけどそれまでは『YOICHIRO』という活動名でやっていて、それからフルネームで『YOICHIRO ANDO』として現代アートていう方面でやってみたいという所からキャンバスを描き始めてみたみたいな感じです。

I had been partners with Village Vangard,sold physical merchandise from my digital designs at that time.

While I had been collaborating with artists to make their merch,I developed desires that I want to put my designs on canvas.

So about 2 years ago, even though I’ve been designing as an artist for 20 years, I changed my astist name from “YOICHIRO”
to my full name “YOICHIRO ANDO”, to try out my possibilities in contemporary art field, creating more and more works on canvas.

🟢YOICHIROさんのスタイルとは？
🟢What is YOICHIRO’s style?

常にそういう好きなアングルがあるんですけどそういう画像を集めてて描く前にコラージュから始める感じですね。

もっと自分が描きたい感じにしていって、一旦その画像からiPad上で顔を変えていってある程度作ってそれをキャンバスに描くみたいな。

そこに入れる文字は出来るだけキャッチーな言葉というか分かりやすい言葉を使おうと思っていて、英語ができない人でも見てすぐ分かる言葉をなるべく使うようにしてるんですけど、その文字に秘めた事自体はそんなキャッチーではなくていろんな想いがあってやってるんですけど、文字はなるべく分かりやすい言葉を選んで描いている感じです。

athering images on specific angles I like,so I can make a collage with those images before I start drawing.

Then I add more of my taste into it,
change the face with a tool on my iPad with the way I like to start painting on canvas.

All the words on my paintings,I choose them to be catchy,easy to understand for those who doesn’t understand English that well,so people can be more familiar and engaging to my art works.

I don’t really use “words” to express what I’ve put into my works,despite all the other thoughts in the process behind.

I want everybody to understand.

🟢影響を受けたアーティストは？
🟢Who inspired you?

小学生の頃は鳥山明が大好きで、鳥山明の単行本を読むというよりは鳥山先生の力の入ったカットを描きたくて模写したくて。発売日に買いに行ってたみたいな感じでしたね。

社会人になって最初に影響を受けたのはRockin’Jelly Beanさんていうちょっとロウブロウ系なイラストレーターさんなんですけど、昔なのでパンクとかも流行ってたりとか。そんな中でJamie Reidっていうセックス・ピストルズのジャケット作っていた人だとか、Andy Warholとか、色の中にモチーフがドンとあるようなシンプルなんだけどインパクトがあるようなデザインにすごくハマって。

多分今の自分の作品はそういう人たちの影響がすごく出ている気がします。

Since my elementary school days, I love Akira Toriyama, the manga artist. As much as I enjoyed his manga stories, I enjoyed more of his powerfully drawn pages which I was passionate to reproduce. To the level that I went to stores to get the comic book on the launch day.

After graduating from school, Rockin’Jelly Bean, the illustrator in low brow art has had an impact in me with some punk scenes at the time. Especially looking at works of Jamie Reid, who designed Sex Pistol’s album covers, or “THE” Andy Warhol, who has a signature style with visible motifs on vivid colors. I was fascinated to their style with yet simple but huge impactful design.

I would definitely say my works pays respects for those who inspired me in the process.

🟢制作中のルーティンは？
🟢What is your routine?

きっとみんなここカッコいいことを言っていると思うんですけど、自分のルーティンはメジャーリーグでドジャースの試合を観ながら毎日描くっていう。
それが何年もルーティンな気がします。
毎日観ながら描いてるので、なんかちょっとあの雰囲気が落ち着くんですよ。
リラックスして描けるのでなんか好きですね。

Well, I’m assuming every othe artist says cool things right here, when it comes to my routine, it is definitely watching Dodgers baseball games while drawing.

For over years and years now.
I watch the game everyday when I draw, so that the whole vibes comforts me a little and makes me be relaxed.

🟢YOICHIROさんが思い描くアーティストとは？
🟢What kind of artist do you envision?

やはり自分の絵を好きになってくれた人が居るならば、誰でも嬉しいです。
いろんな人に好かれる絵が描けるようになりたいです。

All in all, I would be very happy if anyone likes my painting.
I would like to be an artist who’s loved by a lot of people.

🟢今回の版画制作について一言
🟢About Giclee project

2年前に『YOICHIRO ANDO』としてキャンバスでやる前はジークレーとかも出していたんですけど、キャンバスばかり描くようになってからは初めてなのでYOICHIRO ANDOとしての今回の取り組みを楽しんでもらえたら良いかなと思います。

Before I started on my new chapter as YOICHIRO ANDO 2 years ago, I originally did some giclee print works as well.

However, this time, It will be the first time since I started painting on canvas. So I hope you enjoy YOICHIRO ANDO’s print project.
